Getting here.

Safe and sound between snowy peaks.

Gold River is beautiful. This morning I woke to the sound of porta potties being set up for the Vancouver Sun Run. As I write this, all I can hear is silence echoing between dark trees.

I'm very lucky that the other UBC TC posted to Gold River is my friend Nat from the visual arts cohort. Nat and I carpooled here together which gave us plenty of time to dream up various kinds of art/theatre cross-curricular and place-based projects that we might like to pitch to our new school. We spent 2 hours stocking up on groceries in the Campbell River Superstore before heading out along the spectacular road through Strathcona Park to Gold River.

Jumping into new experiences

Once in Gold River, we dropped off our groceries with my lovely host Pierette, checked in to the Gold River Chalet where we are staying for one night, then met up with the other UBC students for dinner/pool at the pub. Just like my first time in Saskatchewan, I am struggling with the bizarre mix of feeling both relieved and taken aback by the sheer friendliness of everyone I've met; the sensation of being at home in a new place.
